Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week – May 1st through 7th, 2022!

As we focus on the emotional wellbeing of children and youth during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week (CMHAW), we see this as an opportunity to change hearts, minds, and attitudes regarding mental health.

After 17 years, we’re re-defining the CMHA campaign!

Previously, Children’s Mental Health Awareness, in 2022 we’re changing the “A” to acceptance

Themed around #Together4MH, on Monday, May 2, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week (May 1-7) with Blanche A. Nixon/Cobbs Creek Library on May 2, 2022. Many youth and families came out for a day of celebration featuring Mindfulness Storytime sessions as the use of songs and books that have the youth do different yoga style stretches, or instruct in breathing exercises and mindfulness exercises in a fun way.

Themed around, “Emotions and Mindfulness”, this will include books about emotions or social/emotional skills. Also a book giveaway, books donated by Tree House Books.

Resources for youth and families were provided by Healthy Minds Philly, the Community Engagement and Wellness Unit (CWEU), Philadelphia Family Voices and the Philadelphia Alliance for Child Trauma Services (PACTS). On-site, free and confidential mental health screenings were available and taken. PA State Representative Joanna McClinton stopped by the event to show support.

Color Wheels provided fun activities focused on mental health and wellness for youth and Parties Made Perfect gave the youth a chance to get their faces painted with cool designs and had them walk away with an awesome balloon animal!
